[L.E]A GOVERNMENT WITH A POPULATION WHICH NEVER HAD IT SO BAD!

There is a great dissension within the MSM/ML, where at any time an implosion could happen. Some political members of the MSM/ML are not too happy about the scandal over Yogida Sawmynaden and the foul report on the death of Soopramanien Kistnen in the sugarcane field at Telfair and still voice out their discontent in private meetings. The question that comes to mind: is Sawmynaden posing a constant danger to his own political party? What about the “du jamais vu” attitude and behavior of the current Speaker of the National Assembly? Pravind Jugnauth is a puppet PM, who can’t take a simple decision, and is different from other past PMs of the likes of Ramgoolam, Bérenger and SAJ who took bold decisions on their own without putting the matter in the hand of committees and what not.

This government is declining day by day, with lots of lame duck ministers such as Daureeawoo, Dookun-Luchoomun, Ganoo and Balgobin, just to mention a few. On top of it, the PM himself keeps bluffing but without any good “bilan”. None of those above-mentioned ministers have so far done any concrete job, not only for the country but also for their constituencies. I reckon that in the 2024 general elections, the PM can kiss goodbye to power. Mark my words! No matter where you go, where you turn, whether right or left, people of this country show their discontent and have had enough of the MSM/ML government.

What is the true ‘bilan’ of this government since they took power in 2019? We only hear great project announcements where Mauritius will be “un grand chantier du développement”. All these fictitious projects are only on paper but have never been put into practice. In fact, according to many people, this is the most incompetent government they have ever come across. There have been lots of redundancies, job losses, unfair dismissals and workers in certain fields have not been given their dues. Our hospitals and dispensaries are not functioning as they should be. Obsolete medical apparatus, shortage of drugs and medical negligence are common and need to be solved. This is what we find today in most of our hospitals.

Nepotism, favoritism and communalism are the name of the game in this MSM/ML government. Law and order are declining day by day. Road accidents are frequent and every day, people are killed on our roads as if such a tragedy has become part and parcel of our daily lives. Prices in the supermarkets are rocketing sky high. Petrol and diesel have gone up three to four times in the space of a few months. People are suffering a lot, where some of them are living without food at all.

Persecution by police instead of prosecution, which is condoned by this government, is practiced against many people of this country. Dead bodies are mushrooming across the island without any arrest by police due to their inefficiency and incompetence. We have a very incompetent Police Commissioner who only takes orders from the government. A journalist of the MBC had to leave her job because she was reported by a government MP for not allowing him to give a declaration. She left her job after many years serving as a Senior News Editor.

Building smart cities are considered as capitalist projects and are only for capitalists and have nothing to do with the majority of poor people who live mostly in the outskirt ghettoes of towns and villages. So, will smart cities help to combat poverty? When we talk about smart cities, the government is encouraging capitalism across the island.

So, what are the solutions for the government to show and to convince this population that they mean business?  We badly need a reshuffle of the Cabinet ministers where certain ministers need to take a back seat while others take their places. Even some government backbenchers, namely Jutton, Rawoo, Ramdhany and Bablee are very useless and good for nothing. We are facing a general political instability where the gap between the poor and the rich is widening. So far, there is no middle class. This is not a PM that is delivering the goods, instead he is regarded as the worst PM we ever had by simply protecting capitalists and propagating capitalism at the expense of the poor.

Today, there is a general mistrust between the PM and most of his ministers who are good for nothing. So, it’s about time that he realizes the harm these ministers are doing against the country and its population. What the PM should do is to reshuffle his Cabinet of ministers, as simple as that, if he wants to calm the situation of unrest in this country. What a proper and justified remark was made by Senior Lecturer in Economics, Anil Sewumber, on the new United Opposition about which he wrote in Business Focus dated 23rd March 2022 that: “This new allied opposition shows sign of goodwill and will go a long way because such a force will attract unity of the people who have been victimized by repression.”

But I still find it hard to comprehend Ahmad Macky, affiliated with the International Federation of Journalists, when he wrote in the Commonwealth Gazette dated 22nd April 2022 about The Opposition. I quote: “So far, neither the United Opposition is helping much about the problem of the country and its population. The United Opposition parties are united only for one purpose, that is to destabilize a government even if elected by default without any constructive ideologies about society and real politics of this country. They only want to fill the dead men shoes, but none of them is brave enough to say it. No wonder why the leader of the Labour Party Dr Ramgoolam and his party are not prepared to join them so far”.
