[L.E]REZA SAUMTALLY: A HERO THAT TIME WILL NOT FORGET

Today, Mauritius is gifted with a man of high ambition of social and political will who has left no stone unturned since he was selected and chosen as a Labour Party candidate in Constituency No 10 (GRSE/Bel Air). Reza Saumtally is the most unforgettable character I have ever met. Not only he has achieved fame nationally but many communities within our society love him because of his good and philanthropic actions and deeds towards many poor people in this country, especially those living in Constituency No. 10. His actions and donations to the needy often made headlines on the front pages on both local and foreign press. This is a man of great wisdom and a fervent helper to those people living hand to mouth in the ghetto areas of the island of Mauritius. I have followed the path of his political career and social activities since he has been appointed as a PTR candidate; he is ranked among the best social workers and politicians we have since time immemorial in this country. Even his political adversaries from different political parties adore the man. Saumtally, both as a social worker and a politician, will go a long way in his cherished ambition.

During the last electoral campaign, he was a pet to all his constituents and they all like him because of his beautiful words of wisdom which he said to his audience and no doubt such words are printed in the mind of his audience who did vote for him. He is the most unforgettable character and who is much loved in his constituency and all other constituencies of this island. The man is an asset to this country no wonder why all the communities like him. No wonder why all the communities like Reza Saumtally for what he is and does and say all the time.

Here are some of his good achievements and actions, just to mention a few, which he had done to the people in great need. He donated a very expensive fishing boat to the fishermen of Trou d’Eau Douce. During the Covid lockdown, he went door to door in many parts of Medine Camp de Masque, Sebastopol, Melrose, Clemencia, Belle Rive, Olivia, Caroline and other parts of Constituency No. 10 to deliver bags of goods and commodities such as food, flour, rice and gas cylinder.

To our amazement, du jamais-vu, Saumtally took a City Clinic ambulance to a Hindu family at Bramstan, Flacq, last week to help a sick baby in arms who had a very serious illness. The sick baby accompanied by her tearful mother were transported urgently by the said ambulance to the City Clinic of Port Louis. Reza Saumtally assured the family that he will foot the bill and all expenses to the City Clinic of Port Louis.

This is a man that deserves our blessing and appreciation. Notwithstanding that he lost at the 2019 general elections, Saumtally never loses hope to win because as he told me once, his objective is to make the poor, the needy, the deprived, those that live from hands to mouth, happy.

And these are words of a true politician of a Labour Party and a social worker in the person of Reza Saumtally with full of humility, kindness, consideration for others and no wonder why all the voters always ask for him these days in Constituency No. 10.

Today, there are not many people, including politicians, that care for humankind but thank goodness we are fortunate to have people like Reza Saumtally, Eshan Juman, Joanna Bérenger, Armoogum Parsuraman, Stephanie Anquetil, Rashid Imrith,  Jane Ragoo, and Anand  and Sanjiv Mulloo and few others that I can’t right now remember their names, indulging more of their time and lives in the true patriotism of this country with their philanthropic attitude towards society.  These are men and women that days and nights devote their lives and time to those deprived of society who eats from hand to mouth on a daily basis. They are our forgotten heroes without decorations of the Republic of Mauritius.

Saumtally will always be someone who commands respect among not only Mauritians but foreigners. Even the the Labour Party leader, Navin Ramgoolam, acknowledged to me sometimes ago in a brief interview, at the end of a Muslim inauguration function ceremony at Phoenix, that we need more people of the like of Saumtally to combat poverty across the country in all aspects of livelihoods. This is where I and other of my colleague journalists came to know that Saumtally is a beneficial human being for the poor and deprived people of this country. I am sure that any intelligent voter will always remember for a very long time certain devoted politicians and other do-gooders of the like of Saumtally for their good works, thus increasing their popularity all the time.

There is no doubt that most of the salvations done across the country that we see expanding is thanks to politicians and social workers of the like Saumtally, Juman, Parsuramen and Sooltan.

To conclude this short article, we should be indebted to the good works Reza Saumtally has done in his short time since he becomes a political figure by using his experience as a fervent social worker  and words which he keeps reminding us  in those terms: “live and let others live”.
