THE HUNDRED AND TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF NOORANI MOSQUE, AT BEL AIR, RIVIÈRE SECHE

The continuing existence of Noorani mosque, of Bel Air, Rivière Sèche which is celebrating soon its 120 years of existence has never passed unnoticed to the local inhabitants. Since the new committee has taken over recently the administration of the Noorani mosque of Bel Air, Rivière Sèche, we notice that lots of changes are happening these days. Many poor and deprived children benefit a lot when it comes to education. The Mosque, I have been told, has even helped financing some poor PSAC students).

Every morning there is a special religious school ( Madrassa) in the mosque for all children to attend. The administrative team took this initiative with a view to helping those children to acquire the basic knowledge of Islam which is a religion of peace, discipline and harmony. This mosque, would you believe it, has even raised its students within the neighborhood to the status of “Quran Hafeez” meaning students who can memorize the whole Quran by heart.

On week-ends, a free special religious school is held at the mosque for those students who can’t afford to pay private tuition to other religious schools. We also have regular religious seminars, debates and poverty alleviation sessions by the mosque’s administration. We need to thank all past and present administrators, presidents and board members as well as past and present caretakers of the Noorani mosque for all their good works that have been accomplished.

Today Noorani mosque shines gloriously in all kinds of weathers in this tiny village of Bel Air, Rivière Sèche, situated in the Eastern part of Mauritius. It is thanks to this new committee and new president (Mutwalli) namely Mr  Islam Dilawar together with the knowledgeable assistance of Imam Hussein Luckheea have elevated the prestige and status of the Noorani mosque not only as a place of worship but also as religious academy for young and old who frequent the mosque. Many children also have benefitted a lot in the field of religious education.

Furthermore, the mosque provide food to many very poor families who can’t afford a square meal a day. With the initiative of Noorani mosque, many directors, managers of super markets and other shops in the vicinity have donated food for all those vulnerable people affected by poverty. The salvation army of Noorani mosque is doing its best to make life comfortable and pleasant to poor families. During special occasions such as Ramadan, Noorani mosque always remains indebted to our three local members of Parliament namely Hon Bholah, Hurdoyal and Nazurally for their constant support and help during iftar orgnisation in the mosque.

Let’s hope Noorani mosque celebrates its 120th anniversary in great splendor with the blessings of Allah and his banda.
