Gaza has been living for 15 years, yes 15 years, under total blockade. The Israeli army has imposed since 2007 a land, air and sea blockade on the Gaza strip as the world has never seen before. More than two million people have been trapped in the Gaza strip. The whole world is blind and deaf to what is going on in the Gaza strip.
Not a single sector of the Gaza’s economy or society has been left untouched.
Do you know why Israel has imposed a land, air and sea blockade since 2007?
Since 2007 is misleading, as Israel has restricted the movement of the Palestinians in and out of Gaza for more than 14 years. Starting in the late 1980s with the first Palestinian uprising. For those who are aware of the Palestinian struggle, the Intifada.
In late 80s: Israel introduced a permit system to control the movement of the inhabitants of Gaza who are traveling through Israel, West Bank and East Jerusalem to look for jobs.
Since 1993: Israel has been using all sorts of closures tactics on the Palestinian territories to torture them.
1995: Israel built an electronic fence and a concrete wall (stronger than the Berlin Wall) around the Gaza Strip.
2000: Israel cancelled nearly all the travel and work permits in Gaza.
2001: Israel (‘Fou pa mal avek lopinion mondial’) bombed and deliberately destroyed the Gaza airport. The Gaza airport was opened three years before.
2005: Israel removed some 8,000 Jewish Israelis who were living in illegal settlements in Gaza.
2006: Hamas democratically won the elections and since that date, Israel has dramatically increased its siege.
It is apposite to note that since the beginning of the siege Israel has launched full-fledged attacks on Gaza in 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2021.
- Thousands of Palestinians have been killed (more than the Ukrainians).
- Hundreds of children killed (no tears from the West).
- Thousands of homes, schools and public offices have been destroyed.
Any rebuilding process is quasi impossible. Why? Because the fascist state of Israel strops deliberately construction materials such as steel and cement from reaching Gaza.
The multiple attacks of Israel over Gaza have caused the sewage treatment infrastructure to be turned into rubble.
The domino effect sewage (‘dilo kaka frer/ser’) seeps into drinking water, which has resulted in a dramatic increase of all sorts of diseases linked with infected water.
The United Nations has said in clear terms that 95% [ninety-five percent!!!] of the water has been rendered unsafe for drinking.
And if one wishes to improve the quality of water, it is quasi an impossible task as there is a deliberate ongoing power crisis. Many homes in Gaza rely on electrical pumps to send water to the top of buildings. No electricity simply means no water.
For students:
- No electricity to study at night.
- No generators.
- No schools.
- Latrines in schools are left dirty because of water scarcity.
- No clean water for washing the latrines.
- No water for cleaning hands for children.
Now that you know, you can’t plead ignorance.

- Population: more than two million
- Refugees: 64%
- Area: 365 km²
- 56% of the Palestinians in Gaza suffer from poverty.
- Youth unemployment stands at 63%
IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER
More than 60% of Palestinians in Gaza are refugees who are constantly being persecuted by the Israeli secret services.
Israel’s blockade has raped the economy of Gaza. ‘Today’, the United Nations has called what is going on in the greatest open prison on Earth (maybe the Uyghurs are not far) as ‘DE-DEVELOPMENT’ of the territory. In simple terms, no developments at all but stepping backwards.
We must also not forget that the United Nations has warned that conditions are deteriorating at such a rapid pace that Gaza should be uninhabitable by 2020. If it has not happened, it is because of the ingeniosity of the Palestinians
