The cow

[Representing our national economy]

Being in the prime of my youth, hale and hearty

Then known by people as “vache grasse”

Providing milk to people at large

Among dales and valleys, I use to graze

Not always the period of “vache grasse” remains

Milking in excess makes me hapless

Until skinny I become, then who cares

At this juncture I am known as “vache maigre”

During my hey days, I become cash cow

Some holds me by the horns vigorously

While others milk me happily and excessively

Not caring for my health but lured by milk

What if my tongue comes out with weary?

Through thick and thin, I always stand by them

Money talks for the milk sellers at all cost

Wealth, not my health, do they consider

Learn to use me judiciously, with great care

My bones are weakening day in day out

My fall is the fall of you all, without exception

Let me please graze where the grass is greener

Do not become over-generous to my detriment

Let me grow fatter and fatter with full vigor

Spare to put me at highest bid at this moment

Do not give me a slow death, think for the future
