On several occasions I have advised an old friend of the family namely Zahid Nazurally, the actual deputy Speaker of our Parliament who is also a separate joint force political member allied to the Jugnauth MSM, not to associate himself with the MSM folks. In bold creole patois language, I told Nazurally: “To parti entourer avec malpropreter, ecoute moi, quitte sa bann malpropreter la.” The man never listened to my advice. Notwithstanding he knows I am right and what I said to him, he never listened but keeps continue to swallow all sorts of bitter pills of the MSM.
How can anyone imagine a drunk driver in the name of Adrien Duval who had committed a road traffic accident at night and who lied to police by saying he was not driving, becoming a Speaker of our Parliament? Adrien Duval even refused to give police both a blood and urine test for laboratory sample.
It was on the following day that he admitted to police that he was in fact the driver in that road accident. It would appear that he had no choice but to tell the truth due to the CCTV camera footage revelation. Today many people across the country disapprove of Duval’s nomination as Speaker of our Parliament. Some people have even said that the new Speaker could be worse than his predecessor. But I differ as I reckon that his predecessor was the worst Speaker the country could have! However, it remains to be seen as only time will tell his performance.
Coming back to Nazurally as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, he has been made a real “Dindon de la Farce”, the least I can say! In all fairness, he should have tendered his resignation as this is a deliberate affront to his reputation in so far as meritocracy and hierarchy are concerned. Why did the PM never promote Zahid Nazurally from Deputy Speaker of Parliament to Speaker? This is the question many people as well as many Opposition members are asking today?
Having said that, it will be interested to know what Erskine May the author of Westminster Parliament Standing Orders said regarding hierarchy in so far as the choice of new appointed Speaker of Parliament. If in case this is not mentioned in that Erskine May Standing Orders, then we need to reconsider a general reform of our Parliamentary Standing Orders by appropriate local legislators. Mauritius is a sovereign independent country and is no longer accountable to British legal system.
On the other hand, notwithstanding what the Opposition party is saying about the election of the new Speaker to be an illegal act, two former Labour Speakers of Parliament have come forward to say that there is nothing illegal about young Duval’s election as President of the National Assembly under section 32 (2). As a matter of fact, the whole exercise of the election of the new Speaker is legal and lawfully held.
It will be completely a waste of time for Leader of the Opposition, Boolell, to put a motion of no confidence against the new Speaker as in my opinion his presence next to 2 politicians from the MSM is nothing blameworthy as the new Speaker was only there as a guest of honour in a prize giving ceremony. That what it boils down to it.
One could never understand the political manoeuvre of Xavier Duval who always relies on opportunism to fulfil his desire and mission. Xavier Duval always approaches who ever on the winning side no matter which philosophy such a winning side adopt. The PMSD has always been the black 5 cents to make the 1 rupee of any traditional political party. The PMSD is today past history. No honest, genuine voters worthy of that name will vote such a party. All leaders of extra parliamentary in the opposition have clapped their doors on Xavier nose.
From the way I analyse politics today, I can say boldly without any doubt that the MSM-ML –Linite Militant Obeegadoo-Ganoo will be bad losers in the forthcoming General Elections 2024. The die is cast for them as what they say in French: “Leurs carottes sont déjà cuites”.
