The Muslim world is seen to be at war with itself. The Pakistani army is using weapons of mass destruction this time against their own democracy, after managing to carve Bangladesh out of the post-partition country, Shias and Sunnis are tearing each other apart to control the Middle East and 14 Palestinian factions are competing against Israel dividing their shrinking space. Yemenis are bombing their own territories back to the Stone Age as if all the mountains and deserts that are found in Yemen do not give their country the look of what they want. Sudanese love Sudan so much that they wanted to multiply their country and divide it into two. Sudanese neighbours get jealous, and they want two Libyas. In fact one can fairly surmise that Muslim nations are tribes with flags.
Muslims have buried their heads in the sand for so long that they do not perceive that the world is moving ahead to a better future. China which was a sleeping giant has awakened to the amazement of everyone and is becoming, if it hasn’t already done it, the factory of the world and a first world economy. Today, everything is made in China, from state-of-the-art armaments to reconciliation and conflict resolution.
It is amazing that this “Empire” of the Middle could bring together two most ambitious belligerents, Saudi Arabia and Iran, to sit around the same table and broker a full-fledged diplomatic bond. This Chinese diplomatic coup has been followed by another feat … that of bringing together the hostile Palestinian brothers and talk reason to them and get them to sign the Beijing declaration. Suddenly China has been projected as a peace-making superpower. It seems all peace efforts lead to Beijing.
Ukraine, adamant at the start in its belief of defeating Russia, is obviously suffering from war fatigue. It has dawned upon Kiev that it is futile to sacrifice young lives in a non-winnable war and China has offered a face-saving device by opening wide its arms to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba who met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and confessed that Kiev was ready to negotiate the end of the proxy war they are mired into.
At the same time, it is pity to see the West, which used to be the compass of the developing world, living in a world of the past or simply on a different planet and aiding and abetting a carnage in the Middle East. The USA, the most Christian country whose President swears to serve with the help of God, giving voice to a war criminal in its temple of democracy whose inhabitants gave 58 standing ovations to acclaim the genocide of children and women. Americans are one of the best peoples in the world. You need to live among them, especially among the rural folk, to see what human kindness is. If proof is needed of a government not representing its nation, today’s USA would be a prime example.
China has gained the trust of the wretched of the earth and a special place in the heart of Muslims, a fifth of the world population. If the 57 Muslim nations realise what force of good they can be to humanity, a role assigned to this “Khairum Ummat” by none other than Allah SWT, we are in for nirvana. Xie xie China.
