How can a winning electoral formula be achieved successfully with so many parties?

If all the other non-parliamentary small opposition parties had joined forces with PTR-MMM-ND against this actual government, a winning electoral formula would be definitely occurred in the 2024 general election! However, this won’t make any difference now within a month of this forthcoming general election the writings are on all the walls across the country for this Jugnauth’s government. It would appear that Ramgoolam’s alliance will win this race this time.

The population never had it so bad with this actual government in regard to many problems such as medical negligence in certain hospitals, flooding in people homes during rain fall, water shortage on a daily basis, expensive prices of medicines in chemist shops and shortage of certain foods and drugs respectively in our shops and hospital dispensaries, just to mention a few!

On the other hand, nepotism, communalism, castes, favouritism are too common these days in our society. There is no meritocracy at all and over 70% people are unemployed and others are underemployed. In certain areas of this country many children go to beds in the evening with empty stomachs. In certain ghettoes of this island, many people can’t even afford a square meal a day but had to beg in public places. Over 9,000 university graduates are unemployed, some are underemployed. These are facts and figures! Many youngsters are emigrating to foreign countries in search of jobs. Such is today the reality of life and of our living conditions under this government.

Prices in shops and supermarkets are sky rocketing high beyond the purses of consumers. And yet the rich is becoming richer and poor, poorer! The gap between the rich and poor are widening day by day.

Talking about our infrastructure development, we note that there exists a mere capitalist development across the island for the rich. Our towns and cities are being converted into concrete jungles with fly over bridges all over the places.

Many of our public institutions are not functioning at all. It has been noted that in certain of our key institutions unqualified CEO have been found to administer such offices. Our health and educational systems have gone to the dogs. The country needs a complete change of administration and governance from scratch. We desperately need a general reformation of all our archaic administrative systems.

Corruption and drugs trafficking are at its best in Mauritius with impunity. The population have had to put up with all these misfortunes and miseries in silence for fear of reprisals from the authority should they protest. No wonder why majority of our population wants a change in the whole administrative system of this government. But the problem is who to choose and vote for a better governance and for good representatives in Parliament? In fact there is no solution left to ease the population needs. What choice of government does our population want for its representation? The answer is they have to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Our country is still far away from a political system of transition but I fear that our population is helpless and must put up with the same old political system of tradition. Nothing can be done unless we invent a new winning electoral formula for a complete change of our system. Let us hope and pray that such a winning electoral formula for a better governance will soon come!

A new phenomenon calling itself: “Money Politics” is on the political market. Beware! Let us not be a nation of “money grabbers” from certain corrupt politicians with their dirty money politics just to buy both our votes and conscience.

Our country needs a complete change of all our archaic systems within its administration and governance. We deserve, to start with, an efficient democratic model Parliament worthy of that name. Lots of reformations within certain of our institutions are badly needed. Wages and other salaries have to be indexed link with the cost of living. Inflation has to come down. Road safety and Road Traffic need to be reviewed, monitored and be controlled regularly to prevent accident casualties.

Last but not least we need to protect our green environment and give a special consideration to climate changes.
